Accessibility manual

A brief overview on improving the accessibility for using the platform.

The use of Opiqu with a keyboard follows general principles and standards; no special solutions have been used.

You can move between interactive elements using the tab key. At the top of the page, there are links to the main content for navigation; on some pages, more specific content sections are also listed there.

Modal windows, content that opens on top of the content, and menus can generally be closed with the Esc key or the × button inside them.

Making Content Larger

Web Browsers

To enlarge the content, we first recommend using the built-in functionality of the browser.

In all popular browsers it is possible to zoom in and out.

Settings of Operating System

All major operating systems include settings to enlarge the content displayed on the screen. Check your computer's operating system manual to set up your computer to suit your needs.

Using the Screen Reader

A screen reader is a program that tries to interpret what you see on a computer screen and convey it in other forms. Some Opiq chapters also include a "Read aloud" function, which allows you to listen to the content of a page without the need for screen reader software. The platform and the learning content it contains have been designed to enable the screen reader to describe visual units of content.

Selection of popular screen readers:

  • NVDA (Windows, freeware)
  • VoiceOver (OS X, free, built-in)
  • JAWS (Windows)

Check the screen reader manuel to set it up to suit your needs.

Contrast

All major operating systems allow you to adjust the contrast, transparency and other readability features of the content on your screen. Check your computer's operating system manual to set up your computer to suit your needs.

The platform and the learning content it contains may have specific settings that are activated when the operating system's contrast settings are activated.
