Introduction

Animals kept should have certain desirable characteristics for example, tolerance to harsh environmental conditions, high resistance to diseases and high production potential. Such animals when bred give rise to offsprings which are very productive and cheaper to rear. Therefore, selection and breeding are necessary for successful (profitable) livestock production.
