Introduction
To gain a clear understanding of some of the fundamental principles of crop production, it is necessary to know the extent to which soils may affect plant growth. Soils supply plants with water and nutrients such as minerals which they require for proper growth and development. These nutrients are referred to as essential elements. The essential elements are either found naturally occuring in the soil, or can be supplied through application of organic manures and artificial fertilizers. Artificial Fertilizers are also known as Inorganic Fertilizers.
