Chapter 1.1 (CRE Std 8)

The body is the temple of God

(Read Romans 12: 1-3, 1 Corinthians 6: 13, 19-20)

The body is the temple of God

Look at this picture. What do you see?

This picture shows children during break time. They are both boys and girls. Some are big while others are small. Some are brown while others are dark. Look at your classmates, what difference can you see? All the people we see around us are created by God.

Many times we come across people who want to know our names. Quite often we tell them our names and our parents’ names. But we fail to tell them one important thing; that we are children of God. Even if we have our earthly parents, we need to remember our heavenly father who created all of us. He is the one who gave us these wonderful bodies.

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20, we are asked a question “Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God?”

Some people will find it difficult to understand this question. However, we all need to understand that God made us to look the way we are. He created us and gave us these beautiful bodies. He created us for a purpose and we should grow up as responsible people who respect ourselves as God’s creation. We should not engage in anything that will mess up our bodies. Thus, we are told further in 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20, that we do not belong to ourselves but to God. He bought us for a price so we should use our bodies for God’s glory.

Therefore, we should take care of our bodies and grow up well in a responsible way trusting and believing in God. We should not eat or drink things that will spoil our bodies. We should find time to serve Him in church, at home and in school. We should grow up as good children who have plans of what we want to become in life. We need to spend our time well working towards our ambitions.
